What is the Recipe Scaler & Converter?
The recipe scaler takes a list of ingredients you paste in and multiplies every quantity for you — no more error-prone mental maths. Scale by a factor (double, halve, 1.5×) or by servings (from 4 to 6, say) and it rewrites each line, handling fractions like ¾ and ranges like “2–3” cleanly. You can untick any line you don’t want scaled — salt, spices, leavening and eggs rarely scale linearly — and switch between kitchen-friendly fractions and exact decimals for baking. Because it works on the text you paste, it rescales any recipe from any source, privately in your browser.
How to use the Recipe Scaler & Converter
- 1 Paste your ingredient list, one ingredient per line.
- 2 Choose to scale by a factor or by servings, and set the amount.
- 3 Untick any line you don’t want scaled (salt, spices, leavening, eggs).
- 4 Copy the rescaled ingredient list.
Frequently asked questions
How do I double a recipe? +
Paste the ingredients, choose “Factor” and set it to 2. Every quantity is doubled, including fractions, and you can copy the result with one click.
Does it scale cooking time too? +
No — and it shouldn’t. Cooking time, pan size and seasoning don’t scale linearly, so only quantities are changed. Taste and check doneness as you go.
How accurate are the results? +
The figures come from standard, tested references (USDA FoodData Central and King Arthur Baking) and are excellent starting points. Ovens, ingredients and equipment vary, so treat the numbers as a reliable guide and adjust to taste and doneness.
Is this calculator free, and does it send my data anywhere? +
Yes — it’s completely free and runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored on a server; the maths happens on your device, even offline once the page has loaded.
